Everything the service does, in plain language — including exactly what the paid pass changes, and how to get it back if you lose it.

Free video chat

Tap Start video chat, allow your camera and microphone, read the rules, and press Start. We connect you to a random person somewhere in the world. This costs nothing, forever. There is no account, no email address and no name.

Your video and audio go directly between you and the other person where the network allows. We do not record calls.

During a chat

If the other person leaves, we do not leave you staring at a frozen screen: the search restarts automatically and the status line tells you what is happening.

Choosing your interests (paid)

Normally you get whoever is next. With a pass, you pick interests and we try to match you with someone who chose at least one of the same. You can pick up to 5 interests per category, and 15 in total.

You choose them once, after paying and before your first chat. From then on they stay put: Skip finds someone new on the same interests, and the home screen takes you straight back to matching rather than asking again. If you want different ones, the Change my interests link on the home screen reopens the picker.

There are two kinds of pick. Interests — eleven broad subjects like Music or Tech & science — and countries, grouped by continent. Pick freely from both.

They behave differently, and the difference matters. An interest matches you with another paying person who picked the same one. A country matches you with anyone from there — including people chatting for free, which is most people. So if you want to be matched quickly, pick a country.

Each chip shows a live number: for a country, how many people from there are online right now; for an interest, how many paying people are waiting on it. If it shows nothing, nobody is there at the moment — pick something else, or chat free instead.

The cap is deliberate. If you could select everything, you would match everyone — which is just random chat that you paid for.

What happens if nobody matches

Being specific is only useful if someone specific is around. So the search widens on its own while you wait, and the screen tells you each time it does:

  1. Straight away — someone who picked the same interest as you.
  2. After about 20 seconds — someone from the same category. If you chose Football, that is anyone under Sports & fitness.
  3. After about a minute — anyone else who is also using interests.

Both people have to have waited that long before a wider match is made, so you are never handed a worse match just because someone else got impatient. When you are connected, the chat tells you why — "You're both into Football", or plainly that there was no exact match.

Who you're talking to

A small flag and country name sit in the corner of the other person's video, so you can see where they are. They see the same for you. It comes from the network connection or the browser's language, so it is a rough guide rather than a precise location — and if it can't be worked out, nothing is shown.

Your camera must show your face

This one rule is checked automatically. While you're in a chat, the other person's device checks that a face can be detected in your video whenever your camera is on — and yours does the same for them.

If no face is detected for about 10 seconds you'll see a warning, giving you a chance to move into frame or turn on a light. If it's still not visible about 10 seconds later, the chat ends and both of you go back to matching.

Two things worth knowing. It runs entirely on the two phones or computers in the call — no video is sent to us or recorded, and it does not recognise who you are, only whether a face is there. And it is not perfect: dim rooms and poor cameras can fool it. That's why a chat ending this way carries no penalty of any kind — no strike, no ban, no record. If it happens to you, find better light and carry on.

The pass

Interest matching is unlocked by a single payment shown on the home page before you buy. It is a one-off purchase, not a subscription — nothing renews and you will not be charged again unless you choose to buy again.

Choosing your interests and paying are two separate steps, each on its own screen, and you're told plainly whether the payment worked before anything else happens.

How you can pay:

If a MoMo prompt takes a while to approve, don't pay twice. We keep checking for up to half an hour, and your pass appears as soon as MTN confirms it. If you closed the tab, the home screen offers to check the payment for you.

While the pass is active you can use interests as often as you like, and change your interests between chats at no extra cost.

One pass, one session at a time

A pass works in one browser at a time. If you start using it somewhere else, interest matching stops in the first place and that browser is told why. It can still use free random chat. This keeps a pass to the person who bought it, and it means you are never locked out of your own pass by a tab you closed on another device — the newest use always wins.

Your recovery code

The moment a payment succeeds we show you a recovery code and a Copy button. Save it somewhere you will still have it in a week — a note on your phone, a message to yourself, anywhere that is not the browser you are standing in.

Your pass is stored in that browser, so the code is what makes it portable. It is the only thing you need to put the pass back if the browser loses it, and we cannot look it up for you from a name or a phone number.

Restoring a pass

Your pass is stored in the browser you bought it in. Clearing your browsing data, switching to your phone, or using private browsing can therefore make it look like your pass has vanished. It has not.

To get it back:

  1. Find your recovery code — or, if you did not save it, the transaction ID from your Paddle receipt email (it begins with txn_), or your Mobile Money reference.
  2. On the home page, click "Already paid? Restore my pass".
  3. Paste the code and press Restore.

Any of the three works — the box accepts whichever you have, and works out which it is. A payment reference is checked with Paddle or MTN before anything is restored. If the payment completed and the pass has not expired, the pass is restored to the browser you are using and stops working in any other. There is no charge for restoring, and you can do it as often as you need.

You will often not need to do any of this. Every time you open QuickMingles it quietly checks the pass already in your browser, and chases up any payment it never saw finish — so a pass that went through while you were away is usually just waiting for you.

This also fixes the rarer case where a payment went through but the pass never appeared — for example if you closed the tab at the wrong moment. Restoring issues the pass you paid for.

If the pass has already expired, restoring will tell you so rather than pretending to work. If you cannot find your receipt, email support@quickmingles.com.

Install it like an app

QuickMingles can be added to your phone's home screen from your browser's menu ("Add to Home Screen" or "Install"). It then opens full-screen like any other app.

Connection problems

Allow the camera before pressing Start. Start stays greyed out until your browser has actually given us the camera and microphone — if it looks disabled, the permission prompt is still waiting for you, or access was denied.

If the connection drops, the site reconnects on its own and puts you back into the search. If a particular call fails to connect — you see a black screen — we detect that and find you someone else rather than leaving you waiting.

Some networks, particularly strict mobile networks, can prevent two people connecting directly. If calls repeatedly fail to connect, try a different network or Wi-Fi.

Safety and moderation

Be straight with yourself about this: chats are not watched as they happen, and there is no automated screening yet. Reports are reviewed by a person afterwards. Press Skip the moment a chat turns unpleasant, and Report anything that breaks the rules. Never share personal details with a stranger.
